"Saan mo gusto pumunta? Lipad tayo!"

"The special Philippine art of mixing East and West." 7 years old lang ako noong unang sumakay ako ng eroplano patungong US. Nagtratrabaho ang nanay ko sa isang travel agency sa Manila kaya panay ang biyahe namin noon. Lagi kong binibisita ang kanyang opisina pag walang eskuela. Isa yun sa mga paburito kong lugar na bisitahin dahil marami akong natututunan at nakikita, at siyempre babad ka sa masarap at malamig na aircon buong araw! Lagi kong tinitingan yung mga makulay na travel posters na naka-mount sa pader ng opisina. Sari-saring mga poster na may mga letrato ng ibat-ibang lugar mula sa ibat-ibang parte ng mundo: Sweden, China, Japan, Holland, at iba pa. Pag may bumubisita na taga PAL (Philippine Airlines) lagi siyang may dalang pasalubong para sa akin: minsan binigyan ako ng original na PAL Boeing 747 na airplane model. Mabigat dahil gawa sa diecast metal. Isa yun sa mga paburito kong laruan noon. Lagi ko rin dala kung saan ako pumapasyal ang aking PanAm airline bag na pinupuno ko ng kung ano-anong mga abubut na galing sa opisina at sa mga previous flights. Siyempre nabigyan din ako ng magandang dark blue na PAL airline bag. Sa loob nito ay may kumpletong toiletry kit na may logo ng PAL.

Halos lahat ng makilala mong magagandang babae noon, gusto maging Flight Stewardess! Yun ang mga pangarap ng mga magagandang dalaga noon. Ang tinggin ng mga tao sa mga Flight Stewardess noon parang model o sikat na artista. At siyempre mas sikat yung mga piloto. May ninong ako noon na piloto at lagi siyang may bonggang handaan sa kanyang bahay. Lagi silang umuuwi ng may mga bagahe na umaapaw ng pasalubong, kung ano-anong mga regalo at chocolate na hindi mo mahahanap sa Manila. Pag umuuwi ang nanay ko galing sa biyaheng abroad, malaking event ang pagbukas ng maleta. Siyempre nandoon ang mga pasalubong diba? Pero ang talagang habol ko noon, ay yung amoy ng loob ng maleta sa unang pagbukas. Ang amoy ay parang nag halo-halong amoy ng pabango, bagong damit, bagong sapatos, mga foreign shopping bags, at sari-saring mga chocolate. Hindi ko makakalimutan ang matamis na amoy ng travel.
